Tatak Duterte, Pasig River Napanalunan ang Kauna-unahang Asia River Prize Award

Nasungkit ng Pasig River, sa pamamagitan ng the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission o PRRC ang kauna-unahang 2018 Asia RiverPrize ng International River Foundation o IRF.

Ang parangal ay isinagawa kasabay ng 21st International River Symposium na ginanap sa Sydney Australia noong Oct. 16, 2018.

Tinalo ng 27-kilometer Pasig River ang iba pang mga finalist katulad ng Yangtze River ng China na ni representa ng Asian Development Bank.

Nang i-anunsiyo ang panalo, sinabi ng IRF na napahanga ang mga hurado sa kapasidad ng Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission sa pagtugon sa polusyon ng Ilog Pasig.

“Critical to the success of the story was bringing the community, around 18,000 people, to decent housing and transforming these communities and their lives into environmentally responsible citizens,” sabi ng IRF.

Una nang ideneklara ng IRF na biologically dead ang Pasig River noong 1990s dahil sa tindi ng polusyon sanhi ng paglobo ng Populasyon at iindustrial development na nakapaligid sa riverbanks nito.

Gayunman, dahil sa pagsusumikap ng PRRC at mga kaagapay nito sa river restoration and management efforts ay epektibong naibalik ang buhay ng ilog Pasig.

Dahil sa naturang parangal, tumanggap ang Pasig River ng pagkilala sa iba’t-ibang panig ng mundo na magbubukas naman para sa mga bago nilang partners, magbibigay oportunidad para sa palitan ng kaalaman at best practices at magbubukas din ng panibagong pintuan para sa international support.
